Berkhamsted Bees

What does the Swarm look like?

A swarm of honeybees will usually be in a tight cluster with a few flying off and returning.  The cluster may be ball or sock shaped.  If in transit the air will be full of honeybees.  If this is the case then we would have to wait until they settle to collect them.

Where are the bees located?

Are they accessible, are they in your garden or a public place?  Where are they situated, low down in a bush, high up in a tree or hanging from a fence post?  Bees do not always cluster in conventional or convenient places! Having this information enables us to bring the right equipment along.

How long have they been there?

Has the cluster been there for hours, days or weeks?  It is important to call us as soon as possible, swarming honeybees are on the lookout for a new permanent home.  They have left the parent colony and are stopping mid way, assessing where they will be moving into to set up home whether it's the local oak tree or an appealing chimney pot!
